Has been a discovery to get my resume on the Web. The traditional format of resume is totally insufficient to provide clearly all my available professional potential.
Although the most of cases is a format used by professionals dedicated to Web design, Web programming, photographers, … I have seen that suits my needs great.
I hope other stakeholders feel the same. Either way, and since it is a unexplored path today, I’m open to all comments and critical, if they are provided well intentioned.
It is not the same multidisciplinary as unspecialized. And the truth is that I like most the second term that best fits my profile. Unspecialization consists on specializing in more than one thing throughout the career. And this has been my case, compared to the multidisciplinary option, where one never comes to specialize in anything.
And why is my case? It has not been by chance, or forced by circumstances, but at the end they are always that they send. I remember that when I decided to study agricultural engineering (career posed by the then 6 courses) and a master’s thesis could have done practically any career (except perhaps few) because almost all of them offered interesting knowledge for me. Finally I opted for agriculture because, in addition to a profound vision of nature and its hidden processes, it offered me the possibility to acquire knowledge in an endless technical subjects (mechanics, hydraulics, geology, climatology, construction,…) and management (marketing, outreach, projects,…) In that sense, I am sure to be fully successful. I consider it the option of university education more complete and comprehensive. And, of course, my training did not end at the end of the race. I have continued my education since I ended up not only that, but I trained in a variety of very diverse knowledge.
This interest by all is what has led to not miss any opportunity to continue to grow as a professional. I have done tasks extraordinarily varied, what has given me a profile of a high employability.
I do not deceive me. I know that Human Resources departments are always looking for the missing puzzle piece and want that the candidate has dedicated body and soul life in those tasks that need to cover. But can not deny me that any company loves to staff the same worth to a broken for tearing. Comes Les Pearl that the worker is perfectly adaptable. Because, according to my experience, in Spain the departments often work quite well, but problems arise in the interactions between departments, is therefore needed a worker who is understood equally well with all of them and, above all, with the always difficult Department of computer science.
Say the psychologists make missing 10,000 hours to be very good at something. Do not put it in doubt. But it is also true, as he says the rule of Pareto, that is 20% of the effort needed to achieve 80% of the possible result, and vice versa. And in that I am. Perfection is expensive in terms of use of resources, and I prefer to use many 20% to master well many areas of knowledge. It can be said that I have used my 10,000 hours (actually many more) to be specialist ability to adapt to a large number of situations that I can sue the company. I think that it is a value, at least special in relation to the available range.
I must confess that computer science has been the main vehicle to achieve this. Because 35 years are many years managing computers to programming level, what has made me be more than a good programmer, a very good systems analyst. They are the methods to solve the problems the best of my developments, rather than the code itself. A lot of information management is also another necessary aspect in a complex professional approach, but of new computer science has been the cornerstone to achieve this. When I need to learn something, look for it and learn it very quickly. Finally and after all, they have been many years training to do so.
Believe me, therefore a knowledge worker, but not with -again- usual profile, since I value not the technologies of the information as an end in themselves, but as a means to achieve my goals and the organizations for which I work.
